This paper explores how a school-university partnership implemented a research and intervention project, focused on classroom management, in 3 schools in Ireland. The intervention contributed to positive behavior at school, improved relationships between children, teachers and parents and professional development of teachers. This is a participatory action research project utilising a multiple-case case study methodology. It is primarily qualitative but uses some quantitative methods. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, focus groups and questionnaires. The results of initial analyses indicate that the process of engaging in conversations around behavior raised questions about empowerment, responsibility and control at school. This study demonstrates how research evidence and the process of research inquiry can be used to improve behavior at school.
