Model New Media/Video Programs in Art Education

Abstract

Ways educators work within new media digital arts based programs successfully and creatively to integrate new technologies, specifically video, with Visual Arts in curricula will be addressed. Research objectives will be outlined regarding inner city high and middle schools, to: (1) describe schools' and programs' mandates, (2) record and report teaching methodologies; (3) document and analyze ways educators teach digital new media, particularly in videography; and (4) document experiences of working in new media virtual environments from teachers' perspectives. The presenter will address what researchers have pointed to as A DIRE NEED to study differing school program models in which digital technologies are utilized in meaningful, inventive, and exemplary ways (Gadsden, 2008; Gregory, 2009; Jewitt, 2008; Taylor, 2007b)
