How Do Latino English Language Learner Students Learn?

Abstract

In a study conducted with 229 Latino(ELL) at an urban community college in NYC findings revealed that significant differences existed between the learning style preferences of Latinos (ELL) students and their language spoken at home. Descriptive statistics and t-test were run to explore relationship. For example, students who spoke Spanish (M = 60.08, SD = 6.66) at home showed a high preference for the element of Structure in comparison with students who spoke English at home (M = 58.00, SD = 8.30). Students who spoke Spanish at home (M = 53.57, SD = 9.28) had a lower preference for the element of Authority Figures while learning than students who spoke English at home (M = 56.42, SD = 7.52).
