Addressing Alabama’s Efforts to Increase the Graduation Rate

Abstract

Every day in Alabama approximately 29 students drop out of high school. The negative effects of dropping out of high school not only affect oneself, but it also affects the economy (Rickman, 2008). This session will seek to provide information for administrators, attorneys, and professors to use in educational facilities to increase awareness of the response several school systems have to the challenges that face today’s schools and provide suggestions to increase the graduation rate across the nation. This session provides one perspective of how Alabama has responded to the dropout crisis our nation faces and the effectiveness of reactive legislation that has been passed in order to address a heightened emphasis on increasing graduation rates.
