Abstract

In this study, the Texas state-mandated assessments in reading and in math for Grade 8 Hispanic and Limited English Proficient students for the past seven years were analyzed. Statistically significant, large to very large effect sizes, were present for every year for both subject areas. Despite extensive educational reform efforts, the achievement (opportunity) gap continues. Implications of our findings and suggestions for further research are provided.
