Abstract

Chicago Researchers and Advocates for Transformative Education (CReATE) – to interrogate myths and realities and provide new visions for schooling in that city. Prior to a highly publicized mayoral campaign and election that would inevitably disrupt a political dynasty, the grassroots group sought to be a resource and share research-based perspectives on the public debates surrounding school reform in Chicago and around the country. Taking a curriculum studies approach to doing documentary research, this paper promises to highlight--through portraiture-based vignettes--the troubling rhetoric around school reform while exploring new visions and familiar conflicts.
