Disciplinary Consequence Effects on the Achievement of Students With Disabilities: A Statewide Examination

Abstract

The reading and math achievement of over 30,000 Texas Grade 9 students with disabilities was analyzed to determine the extent to which disciplinary consequence (i.e., in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, disciplinary alternative education placement)was a factor. In all cases, students with disabilities who received a disciplinary consequence had lower reading and math achievement than students with disabilities who did not receive a disciplinary consequence.
