Abstract

Few studies examine how students of color navigate the educational pathway from community college to a 4-year university. Consequently, it is unclear how students with various social, political, economic barriers navigate through the higher education pipeline. The purpose of this research is to examine the college access and transfer process for low-income students by asking participants about their academic progress and future goals at the beginning of their community college experiences. This study adds to the literature on community college students through its illumination of the multiple forms of capital students of color bring with them to the community college.
