Frederick Douglass Elementary is currently in a state of unrest. They recently received news that they did not receive the federal STEM magnet school grant that they applied for last year and that they failed to make AYP (annual yearly progress) for the third consecutive year (and were the only school in the district to do so). This study focuses on three school faculty meetings that took place at Frederick Douglass; the one in which this information was communicated to the staff, and the two others that followed. Discourse analysis of these meetings focusing on talk time and interruptions lends insight as to why teachers at Frederick Douglass feel unheard and talked down to by their school administrators.
