Abstract

For years, I struggled to understand why professional training fails to recognize Latina/o foreign language teachers’ personal funds of knowledge as resources to improve teacher preparation, instruction, and research. Drawing on funds of knowledge and LatCrit, this paper is a testimonio of my trajectory to a doctoral program highlighting challenges and transformations I encountered as a Latina practitioner. It is an important story to tell as my lived experiences mold the Yo - I am today and contribute in unique ways to my roles of researcher and teacher. I offer that PAR informed by personal funds of knowledge is a viable methodology for educators to deliver culturally relevant PD that supports meaningful pedagogy for nosotras/os working with nondominant students.
