Development and Validation of an Instrument to Measure Perceived Utility of Training and Future Time Perspective for Technical Students

Abstract

This poster paper will present the results of two studies, to be conducted in Fall 2011, aiming to construct and validate an instrument measuring perceived utility of training and future time perspective. Inspired by the Future Time Perspective Questionnaire and the Perceived Instrumentality Scale (Husman & Hilpert 2007; Shell & Husman, 2008), the instrument comprises six subscales measuring future time perspective (value, connectedness, extension, speed) and perceived utility of training (endogenous instrumentality, exogenous instrumentality). Data will be obtained for French-speaking pre-university and secondary-level vocational training students (n [Study 1] ± 300; n [Study 2] ± 450). The instrument’s psychometric properties will be presented along with analysis to validate its internal structure (CFA) and the internal consistency of its included subscales.
