Abstract

This research examines the questions: What is the nature of teacher resiliency in a time of educational challenge and change? How does a teacher use holistic strategies to maintain wholeness in a fragmented world? For this study, I will explore the important intersection of these questions as it relates to huge changes in Wisconsin educational policy. I studied teachers who demonstrated remarkable wholeness and resiliency in the face of extremely difficult teaching assignments and within the context of their own challenging life situations. How did they do it? What were their strategies? Each of these teachers brings into the classroom a personal history that led them to specific strategies, not just for survival but also for thriving.
