Positioning Kenyan Immigrant Women in U.S. Higher Education: A Narrative Inquiry

Abstract

This narrative inquiry study examined educational experiences of seven Kenyan women pursuing higher education in the United States. The study used in depth interviews to explore the participants’ educational experiences and their transformative learning experiences. Transformative Learning theory and narrative inquiry guided the methodology and analysis of the data. The findings have the potential to give voice to the voiceless Kenyan women and increase our knowledge about Kenyan and African women in general. In addition, the findings will be of interest to adult educators by offering guidance as they work towards improving the academic experience for diverse students.
