This paper examines the current issue of deregulation in textbook policy on the Ministry of Education, South Korea. The policy has been progressing in a top-down manner.
The national and authorized textbooks of the 7th National Curriculum have remained in effect for ten years(1998-2007). With the revision of the National Curriculum in 2007, however, an irregular revision system has been introduced. The 2010 textbook reform policy that the government wanting the textbooks to be more diverse and creative. It also includes a shift from a rigorous review system of textbooks to one that is much looser.
In light of Korea's educational culture, it seems necessary to give careful thought to the meaning of textbook advancement.
