The literature on becoming a teacher educator has flourished recently yet there has been little research on becoming a physical education teacher educator (PETE). This paper explores our experiences of moving from secondary school teacher to university-based PETE. Using the naturalist paradigm we used ourselves as the data gathering tools in which our knowledge became the lens through which to view our experiences. Our analysis showed that we sometimes struggled with the transition from teacher to teacher educator, primarily in finding how and where we fit into PETE, and making specific the thinking and reasoning behind our teaching practices. Future PETEs may benefit from structured learning about teaching teachers where they can observe experienced colleagues and discuss issues beyond teaching.
