The Stories Children Play: How Storying Empowers Voice in Young Children

Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Third Level, West Room 303

Abstract

The study focused on the process and growth that a junior and senior Kindergarten class underwent over nine weeks through telling individual stories, acting them out with the whole class and creating a class book of their drawings and stories. Important pedagogical considerations for a storytelling curriculum that engages multimodal approaches to literacy learning are offered, revealing the complexity of children’s meaning-making.
