In this study, we examined the relative feasibility and efficacy of two different-length versions (36 vs. 20 hours) of a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program for teachers with regard to changes in mindfulness and occupational stress and burnout. This randomized control trial included 68 self-selected elementary and secondary teachers from the same public school district in Colorado. Feasibility and efficacy were based on MBSR instructor reports and teacher-self-reported survey data. Results showed that both programs were feasible, and that both programs produced equivalent increases in mindfulness and reductions in stress compared to control. Fewer symptoms of burnout were reported at the conclusion of the 36- compared to 20-hour programs. Implications for teacher professional development are discussed.
