Abstract

Recent mandates to redesign educational leadership programs in universities resulted in innovative and more meaningful ways to gain leadership experiences. The traditional approaches that set apart the field experience from course activities and required university supervisors and school mentors was replaced by a job-embedded approach directly related to course contents. This study investigates how effective the embedded practicum experience in an educational leadership program is in serving the purpose of preparing educational leaders to meet future challenges. Strengths and weaknesses of the practicum experience, identified through the perceptions of program candidates, confirm practicum areas that met the educational demands and highlighted areas that need improvement to make the educational leadership program more effective.
