This research inquires into the experiences of an early career teacher with a particular focus on the ways passion is represented in her life. We inquire into the ways her passion for teaching is sustained and interrupted. This paper inquires into the ways passion results in tension when it collides with the grand narrative of school, when it collides with the narratives of others, and with the narratives of the self. We foreground these moments of collision in order to understand how these experiences of passion and tension shape her identity making, and also to develop a deeper understanding of the life of a beginning teacher.
