Non-Tenure-Track Faculty’s Social Construction of a Supportive Work Environment

• In Event: From Religion to Race: Making Sense of Organizational Behavior in Institutionally Diverse Contexts

Abstract

Through qualitative case study of 107 non-tenure track faculty (NTTF) within 25 departments at three institutions, this study examines: How do NTTF construct an understanding of support within their department? A set of individual (career phase, comparison groups) and institutional conditions (chair, history of department, size) that shape different views are revealed. The study adds to our understanding of the heterogenity of this group.
