Measuring Creative Self-Efficacy

Fri, April 13, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom B

Abstract

This study presents instruments designed to measure two dimensions of creative self-efficacy, creative performance self-efficacy (CPSE) and creative thinking self-efficacy (CTSE). CPSE was modeled as being indicated by latent factors of domain, field, and personality, while CTSE was modeled as being indicated by latent factors of elaboration, flexibility, fluency, and originality. The instrument was validated through model fit, which it possessed but which a rival alternative model that included a general factor of self-efficacy did not. Additionally, the nomothetic span of the new instrument was validated by examining the relationship of CTSE and CPSE to both an older measure of creative self-efficacy as well as to openness to experience. Implications of these findings are discussed.
