Given the number of frameworks that offer disturbing, reductive, and often prescriptive recommendations about teaching students in poverty, we seek to accomplish three goals with this presentation: 1) to discuss the limitations of existing popular frameworks on educating students living in poverty, 2) to summarize mythologies about poverty which impact student-teacher relationships 3) to offer new perspectives on educating students from impoverished backgrounds by providing design principles which can undergird our approach to teacher preparation.
