How Effective Is Honor Code Reporting?

Sat, April 14, 8:15 to 9:45am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom B

Abstract

Institutions of higher education have implemented honor code reporting policies in the face of growing instances of student violations of academic integrity and honesty. This experimental study evaluates the effectiveness of honor code policies and compares them to traditional methods employed by faculty such as reprimands and grade penalties. The results suggest that honor coder reporting does not have a greater effect on deterring student violations of academic integrity and honesty than do faculty reprimands and grade penalty. The experimental nature of the study provides solid evidence for such findings.
