The purpose of this study is to examine the role of parent’s science value in the development of their child’s motivation in science and science outcomes in two Eastern countries. Data drawn from Korea and Hong Kong in PISA 2006 were analyzed utilizing structural equation modeling. Although there were large mean differences of motivational constructs between Hong Kong and Korea, the relationships among these constructs were consistent across countries. The results support the generalizability of expectancy-value theory in different cultures. In addition, the findings highlighted the important role that parent can play in the development of their child’s motivation of learning science.
