What is the use of the past? A snapshot at Francophone student teachers in Ontario and Québec Universities

Abstract

What role does the past play in the lives of history student teachers? Do they see teachers as reliable sources of information about the past? How does history help define their teaching practice? The purpose of this exploratory study is to survey student teachers’ ideas about history and the teaching profession and discuss some of the implications of the results for teacher education programs in Canada and abroad.
