Student Identity and Its Relations to Prospects of Personal Future and School Performance

Abstract

The paper is part of a project studying student identities and identity development in schools. In this paper we analyze the first results of an identity scale developed for the purpose. We call this scale as the Adolescent Personal Identity Resolution Scale (APIRS). The non-probability sample (N = 235) was collected from sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth grade students. Methodology was quantitative and results are analyzed statistically.
The results indicate that according to statistical analyses of the inventory seems to work as predicted. Gender, student age, and Grade Point Average have statistically significant relations with the different subscales.
