Abstract

The social-emotional (SE) assessments are one component of the Inventory of Early Development-III. These assessments have a foundation of empirical evidence that has emerged over several decades on SE competency and skills. The assessments, which target birth through 7-11 years of age, have been revised, including a new normative sample. The SE items are purported to measure four aspects of SE skills including Prosocial / Regulation, Motivation / Confidence, Peers / Play, and Adult Relationships. The aim of this study was to provide reliability and validity evidence for the scales’ scores. Results from item analyses, reliability analyses, and confirmatory factor analyses are provided. Final results are anticipated to support the instrument’s use with this population of young children.
