Potential Roles for Schools in Rural Revitalization: Perspectives From Australia

Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 10

Abstract

Dr. Bill Green is a Professor at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, Australia. He has studied rural education extensively and had been instrumental in many Australian reform efforts. Dr. Green has an international reputation as an educator interested in the potential links between schools and rural sustainability, in particular sustainability that is multi-dimensional and includes cultural, environmental social and economic facets. Dr. Green will be sharing with the participants his recent work on reforms in Australian distance education and curriculum for sustainability in rural New South Wales. Concerned with both the fate of rural communities and rural teacher education, Dr. Green calls for radical redesign of education and teacher education "from the ground up."
