Abstract

Jo-Anne Reid is a Professor of Education and Associate Dean at Charles Sturt University, Australia. Dr. Reid is well-known for her work on the importance of place-consciousness in teacher education. She is the sixth panelist in the symposium. She has argued that school is situated at the focal point of external economic and social influences, as well as political requirements for change and renewal, and therefore functions as the barometer of community well-being. Her contribution to the symposium will be a presentation focused on the role of teacher education, and in particular teacher preparation, in the viability of life and future prosperity rural New South Wales.
