Abstract

This mixed-methods study investigates the implementation of an expertise-based training (XBT) program designed to improve the classroom awareness of pre-service teachers. Participating pre-service teachers engaged in a video analysis activity in which they viewed video clips of near-peer pre-service teachers and wrote comments regarding classroom management and student questioning behaviors. Three expert teacher supervisors completed the same representative task and the observations of the experts were shown to the participants after they had made their own observations. Participants came to align their observations with those of experts, although they resisted in different ways that are profiled in this study.
