“(Re)constructing the Dance” presents the findings and insight from a qualitative case study conducted during a three-week, whole school dance artist-in-residence at a K-5 school. The residency focused on curricular concepts in language arts, mathematics, physical education, science, and social studies, utilizing dance as its primary mode of expression, inquiry, and performance. In this paper session, the presenter will explore the students’ dance experiences as constructed and re-constructed through a convergence of knowledge, personal perceptions, and social discourse, all influenced by historical and theoretical ways of thinking about experience, dance, and the body.
