Abstract

Abstract
This mixed-method case study was designed to identify key benefits, challenges, and lessons learned in strengthening math and science secondary school instruction in predominately low-income, rural schools by working in collaboration with university professors and high school teachers to increase students’ success in college. The collaborative was implemented to prepare more students for access and success in college recognizing that Hispanic and African American students and low-income groups have not accessed college to the same extent as white students or students from middle and high income families. Not addressing the inequities of inadequate preparation of students for access and success in postsecondary education is an issue of social justice (Elk, Machado-Casas, Sanchez & Alanis, 2010) addressed by this initiative.
