From “No” Where to “Know” Where: Hong Kong Youth’s Conceptions of and Experience in Transition to Adulthood

Abstract

This research paper reports on findings of a qualitative study of “Hong Kong youth’s conceptions of and experience in transition to adulthood”. Using the phenomenological inquiry, the author has collected 100 LEDs (lived experiential descriptive data) from Hong Kong youth. Through thematic analysis and phenomenological interpretations, this paper finds that today’s Hong Kong youth has different conceptions of adulthood from the traditional youth in 1970s, 1960s and before that. It is also noted that their lived experiences in transition to adulthood is significantly different. Implications for policy making and curriculum development have been analyzed.
