This article is based on a pilot study conducted in Bangladesh to explore the attitudes of grassroots teachers to admitting students with disabilities into their classrooms. After exploring the historical antecedents supporting the commitment of the Bangladesh Government to educate every child, the findings of a series of interviews with a small sample of practising teachers about their attitudes towards inclusive education are discussed. As these findings suggest, despite the attitudes of this group being generally positive, major policy, attitudinal and structural hurdles need to be overcome before the rhetoric of inclusion can become a reality.
