Relationship of High Schools That Work (HSTW) Indices of Key Practices With Changes in HSTW Assessment Scores

Sun, April 15, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 9

Abstract

The High Schools That Work (HSTW) intervention is a collaborative effort that focuses on creating school environments where students put forth maximum effort to succeed academically and learn college- and career-relevant skills. The objective for this study is to examine the relationship between a school’s standing on the HSTW Indices of Key Practices and changes in HSTW scores. We hypothesized that having high Index scores indicate more effective implementation the HSTW model, which is correlated with increases in HSTW scores. With a recent revision of the HSTW Assessments, correlations of changes in mean HSTW Assessment Scores from the 2008 to 2010 administrations with the mean Index scores for each of the 561 schools were analyzed.
