Abstract

Since the 2008 election of President Barack Obama race has been redefined as a stepping stone to achieving the American Dream. This colorblind ideology in educational theory, policy, and praxis has created a political environment that has forgotten the raced legacy of Brown. In a case study of Wake County Public Schools, this paper presents a conceptual analysis of the necessity for Critical Race Theory to examine how political discourse shapes K-12 institutions. I propose the development of Critical Race Politics in education to assess the intersectionality of race, class, and gender in school board elections, governance, and accountability standards as a tool for the field to extend the purpose of research in holistically serving the public good.
