Mastering the Research: Exploring the Delivery of Research Methods in an M.A. Reading Program

Abstract

The primary purpose of this inquiry is to determine if the removal of a stand-alone research methods course and the integration of research methods content into other courses suffice. The secondary purpose of this inquiry is to explore how professors of educational research can cooperate with faculty in other disciplines to integrate (if proven effective) research methods content into their content-specific courses or to justify the inclusion of stand-alone research methods courses in graduate programs. This study uses a parallel mixed methods design including document analysis, a quantitative comparison of scores on a research skills inventory and reflective journals and interviews from faculty members involved in the program under investigation (Teddle & Tashakkori, 2009).
