Abstract

The purpose of this session is to present findings from a series of school-college research studies directed at linking classroom teaching to student learning outcomes in the selected elementary and secondary school subjects of science and mathematics. A protocol which involved observing the teacher’s videotaped performance of lessons was employed along with an analysis of teacher-student classroom interactions, student work samples and test scores. A variety of observational and assessment tools were used to capture, analyze, and measure teaching performances and student performances of the learning objectives. Findings of the studies provided information about classroom teaching effectiveness, the specific teacher-student actions that facilitated and correlated with learning, and the changes that are needed in the college’s collaborative teacher education programs.
