Abstract

The paper reports on a study that developed and tested a theory and a strategy designed to encourage the imagination in teacher education and in K-12 curriculum. Specifically, it explores the issue: To what extent is the study of the folk tale a useful pedagogic tool to develop the constructive imagination and to guide the understanding of philosophic concepts? The study provided philosophic justifications for the importance of the imagination to philosophy specifically and to pedagogy generally; identified a possible curriculum within which the enhancement of imagination can be undertaken; and identified pedagogic tools that develop imagination in varied forms and contexts
