Nine students and two instructors from two service-embedded courses in Korea were interviewed for the purpose of evaluation on the current status of service learning in Korea and existence of the elements of service learning developed by US scholars. Twelve elements were evident in the courses according to participants. Four elements were reported as more evident than others and two elements were pointed out as weak elements in Korea, which could be explained as due to cultural differences in two countries. Benefits of service experiences and difficulties in initiation of projects were also discussed. The findings are intriguing in terms of clarifying the most important features of service learning that will bring about success in service learning.
