Learning in Ecological Settings: Planning a Collaborative Research Agenda in Contrasting Mountain Systems

Abstract

This purpose of this research expedition project was to conduct research planning workshops that combined the intellectual resources of Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana, USA, Gorno-Altaisk State University, Gorno-Altaisk, Altai Republic, Russian Federation and University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH, USA in planning a collaborative research agenda that addresses the role of informal science learning in distinct yet complementary cultural and ecological settings (the Altai Republic, Russian Federation, and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, U.S.A). The research agenda was guided by informal learning in an environmental context and focused on personal, community and cultural knowledge. The planning workshop addressed research and education issues related to learning communities in similar mountain systems in the USA and Russian Federation.
