The effects of neoliberalism and globalization on the practice of education for sustainable development and environmental education (ESD/EE) are mediated in a range of ways. One of these is through policy pressures, in developed nation states, which seek to modernize or ‘re-professionalize’ teachers, for example through new regimes of accreditation. This paper reports on a study of teachers participating in a new, high-level national standard of teacher recognition that specifically recognizes their accomplishments in the field of ESD/EE. Early results suggest ways in which the research itself might positively participate in the mediation of such policies.
