A Coyote-and-Raven Counterhegemonic Conversation on “Knowing” in an Era of Neocolonialism and Ecological Crisis

Abstract

This counterhegemonic conversation presented as a performative talk by the ubiquitous tricksters, Coyote and Raven, explore the complexities and complicities of the dominant Eurocentric ‘progress’ narratives and practices in education as they intersect with neocolonial and neo-imperialist global market economies. They ask educators to critically reflect on the shape educational discourses might take when intersected with social justice, civil society, Indigenous and environmental voices, agencies, and histories. Coyote and Raven encourage educators to be courageous in their envisioning of education that goes beyond “knowing is not enough” and consider that the foregrounding of western knowings in education is no longer enough.
