Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom A

Abstract

It has already been established that the single most important factor in a student’s academic growth is the quality of the teacher in the classroom. In this age of accountability, schools of education now have the burden of proof that they are truly preparing effective teachers; and the proof of effectiveness is now sought through the instruments used to assess teacher candidates. This project is a qualitative case study of a pilot of the nationally available Teacher Performance Assessment in two teacher education programs at a university in the Midwest. The results show that the method of implementation of the instrument and stakeholder self-assessment are key factors in teacher candidate learning, teacher educator professional development, and program redesign.
