Abstract

In this paper we present findings from a discourse analysis of the talk between preservice teachers and high school students during a summer reading program--a space that was not constrained by traditional aspects of school such as grades. We explore how this program, and others like it, might create a “third space” (Zeichner, 2010) in and through the interactions of high school students and preservice teachers. One primary research question guided our study: How do discourse choices shape the participants’ practices as students and teachers in this third space?
