Studying Abroad: Understanding the Choice Process of the Intent of Female Students in China

Abstract

This study aims to provide a better understanding about Chinese female students’ choice and decision making process for studying overseas. This study was conducted in North Central China in the fall of 2010. Ninety-six female students who were enrolled in a 4-year public university completed paper-based surveys. This study identifies factors that influence students’ choice of study abroad as well as the relationships between them. This study contributes to existing literature of international students’ choice process and extends current knowledge to women students. International recruiters, admissions officers, and policy makers could gain a better understanding about factors that influence female students’ choice in the context of international education.
