Abstract

This paper describes how employing a constructivist perspective to the digital storytelling process yields narratives and stories that reframe leadership preparation and praxis. Pairing a constructivist perspective with the digital storytelling process equips individuals with skill sets necessary to disrupt positions of privilege and power, and create dialogue that nurtures community building grounded in home, school, and community pedagogies. This process of storytelling therefore places importance on both the product and process, thus highlighting qualitative research as a means to 1) acknowledge the historical and cultural assets that aid in understanding ourselves and the world around us; 2) develop the technical skills of how to produce a digital story; and 3) develop political skills necessary to use digital storytelling for community change. We seek to display the utility of digital storytelling as a tool for educational leaders to inform their role with and within the community.
