College Mentors for Kids: Examining the Impact of Mentoring From Three Perspectives

Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 13

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to better understand the extent in which mentees, mentors, and teachers agree on survey items relating to College Mentors for Kids mentoring goals. By including teacher perspectives, this study extends previous literature and allows the program to examine any gaps between these three data sources. Results suggest it is possible that young mentees do not fully understand how their weekly mentoring activities contribute to their understanding and interest in helping other people or awareness of higher education. Although these short term outcomes are possibly conceptually abstract for young mentees, they are important to the program’s long term program goals.
