Most institutions preparing future teachers haven’t significantly changed the student teaching portion of their program for many decades. This presentation highlights the impact of a co-teaching approach in student teaching. Four data sources, including student academic achievement, university supervisor ratings, end of experience surveys and focus groups all support the innovative use of a co-teaching model of student teaching. The co-teaching model of student teaching allows two professionally prepared educators work collaboratively to best meet the diverse learning needs of students. This emerging practice of co-teaching in student teaching holds great promise in transforming the educational landscape for partnering universities and school districts.
