Characteristics of Midwestern Schools Identified as Eligible for School Improvement Grants

Sat, April 14, 8:15 to 9:45am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Abstract

Despite the limitations of research on school turnaround, a national emphasis on implementing federally defined turnaround models has emerged as a central component of drastically improving school performance. Competitions for federal funding such as School Improvement Grants (SIG) are relatively recent developments, and although clear processes around eligibility and funding have been designed and implemented, relatively little has been reported regarding the characteristics of schools identified SIG eligible. For each Midwestern state, descriptive analyses of school characteristics are provided separately for schools that were identified as eligible for SIG funds but did not compete, were included in district applications for SIG funds but were not funded, or were awarded SIG funds.
